Contagion - Exploring Pandemics

Using the movie Contagion was a great way to explore science topics related to pandemics. This movie helped us to understand how pandemics can spread and how societies might treat and try to contain the virus'. It was an interesting exploration of this area of science. We also took a look at world population, politics and the challenges behind creating and distributing cures. Looking at how anarchy can quickly ensue during a disaster was also part of our discussions.

This was a great movie for combining so many elements of learning!

Here are the questions for Contagion.

The Mask of Zorro

Our next Movies for Learning led us into discussions about social justice issues, the Mexican-American War, California, Eldorado, heroism and the nature of oppression in any society. We also looked at the literary elements in the film including irony and creating suspense. Great discussions came from this fun movie with a serious side. The students really enjoyed it.

Here are the questions from The Mask of Zorro.

Robin Hood

We had such a fun time with watching and discussing Robin Hood. There are so many themes that this movie has to draw out with your students. Oppression, injustice, abuse of power and much more historically with King Richard, Prince John, the Normans and the Saxons and much more! Above is the trailer for the version of Robin Hood that we watched.

Here are the questions for Robin Hood ;)

The Sword and the Rose

The Sword and the Rose is a Disney historical movie about Mary Tudor, younger sister of Henry VIII during his reign. Hoping to make an alliance with France, Henry VIII wants Mary to marry King Louis VII. Mary is in love with Charles Brandon and so the plot unfolds.
It is a great way to introduce your students to Henry VIII, The Middle Ages and abuse of power.
Here are the questions for The Sword and the Rose.
